Ogliastra – the eastern coast of Sardinia

Baunei and Santa Maria Navarrese

Baunei is renowned for its spectacular landscapes and pristine waters. Santa Maria Navarrese is Baunei’s seaside. The coastal line extends for about 40 kilometres connecting beautiful beaches, among the most famous in Sardinia. The highlights of the coast include terrific limestone cliffs and ramparts, small coves and the magnificent turquoise blue waters between Santa Maria Navarrese and Cala Luna.

Ogliastra

The Ogliastra sub region, and Baunei in particular, represents one of the most evocative areas of the Island. You will be astounded by the beauty of the beaches and coves such as the Aguglia of Pedra Longa, Capo Montesanto, Portu Cuau and Portu Pedrosu, Cala Goloritzé, Cala Mariolu, Cala Sisine and Cala Luna. The area is renowned not only for its seaside but also for its ancient culture, folk festivals and its beautiful outdoors! Immerse yourself in the amazing nature going on beautiful hiking trips and discover the diverse and wild natural environment: “Golgo” basalt plateau, Europe’s deepest chasm “Su Sterru”, karst valleys and the Karst plateau of “Margine”

Santa Maria Navarrese

Santa Maria Navarrese is a small town on the coast and it is part of Baunei. In 1052 the Princess of Navarra had a church built in Santa Maria Navarrese as an offer to God for saving her from a storm. The town is located near Cape Monte Santo, the land once known as “the insane mountains”. The green, lush nature in Santa Maria Navarrese, with the picturesque hundreds years old wild olive trees, and even a millennial one, contrasts with the pale blue colour of the sky and the deep blue of the sea. The history of Santa Maria Navarrese is also represented by the Spanish tower, guarding the coast from Saracene attacks.
The town of Santa Maria Navarrese is the ideal place if you are looking for a holiday dedicated to sunbathing and exploring amazing nature. Explore Sardinia on a guided land tour or a sea tour, here in Santa Maria Navarrese you will find a wide range of options available.

Baunei

Baunei is located in the central east side of Sardinia, in the area called Ogliastra, part of the Province of Nuoro. It lies on the side of a limestone mountain range, 480 metres above sea level, and it is just 8 kilometres from its sea side town, Santa Maria Navarrese. The territory of Baunei is beautiful and rich in nature and wild life. It spans for about 216 square kilometres, 35 of which are on the Tyrrhenian coast. The coastal line extends for around 40 kilometres of enchanting views.
